Venetian mask-

                  HIGHLIGHTS -

  • Definitely in the top 10 of the world's great cities. Unfortunately prohibitively expensive. Which makes it perfect for a 3 day weekender. Get in and get out while you still have something in your wallet / purse.

  • You could fly in and out of Rome and catch the Fast Train. 29 per day and it takes just over 3 hours. Or fly in and out of Venice's Marco Polo Airport if you can find suitable flights. If your budget is tight you could stay by the Venice Mestre Railway Station and come in for day trips. Or a compromise and stay in the city for a night or two.

  • Hopefully you can afford to stay in town because you are here to experience Venice after all. If you're sharing the price it is a lot easier. Try to come early or late in the tourist season to keep the prices and crowds to a minimum.

  • Get tips on good value accommodation. What sights to see and how to beat the crowds. How to avoid tourist traps and eat where the locals do. How to avoid the sometimes very expensive scams. Four Japanese students received a 1,143 euros bill for their lunch. They complained and the restaurant got a 20,000 euro bill for their efforts.

  •  Cheap ways to get around the place. Some of the can't miss places and experiences. Some interesting history titbits. What to eat and drink. Cafes, restaurants, bars and nightlife. Safety tips.

  • Unfortunately large numbers of tourists attract unethical people looking for an easy dollar. The easiest way to combat them is to educate yourself. Forewarned is forearmed. You can still relax and have a good time. You just won't be so easy to dupe.

  • While your here you might like to have a look at #  Northern Italy. #  Southern Italy, #  Rome 2 Rome, # Spain Coast 2 coast, #1 Silk Road or Islands - Corsica and the Balearic Islands.
